Dr. Robert F. Valencia-Aiken
Before I met Jesus, my life looked nothing like it does today. I didn’t grow up in church and was fully immersed in the culture around me, searching for meaning. But at the end of high school, a deep longing for truth led me to a life-changing encounter with God. In that moment, everything shifted—my desires, my direction, and my identity as I became a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). From then on, my purpose was clear: to reach the lost and help others build a genuine relationship with Jesus.
My Story
My life looked completely different before I encountered Jesus. I was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and raised in Michigan. I did not grow up in the Church, and like many before Christ, I was immersed in the world’s culture. At the end of high school, my deep desire to know the truth and my purpose in life opened the door God needed to reveal Himself to me. My journey to know Him began, and I gave my life to Jesus. My radical encounter with Truth and Love caused me to become the new creation mentioned in 2 Cor. 5:17. My desires for things of this world vanished, and my walk with Jesus became evident. Everyone around me wondered what had happened to me. I did not have the language to describe my born-again experience then that I do now, but I knew I had encountered the living God.

My call to ministry was immediate. I knew I wanted to reach the lost and help others grow in a relationship with Jesus. My first experience gathering with other Believers was at a young adult and college-age ministry at a nearby church. I later interned with a college ministry and knew my life would be one of ministry. This led to many experiences working in various roles in the church: the prayer team, the welcome team, with young adults and the youth, in small group leadership, as security, in marriage ministry, and becoming a chaplain and reverend through Evangel Christian in Roseville, Michigan.
My wife and I were called to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 2010, and we started ministering to the community, got involved in a church there in various leadership capacities, and knew Hawaii was where God wanted us to serve Him. We later formed a nonprofit to continue ministry to the people of Honolulu.
My relationship with Jesus is the foundation for all that I do. It was prevalent when I joined the United States Air Force, and I quickly became known as the person others could go to for prayer and help. I was discharged honorably from the USAF in 2022 and have felt the call into full-time ministry since. My wife, our three kids, and I have been praying about ministry and what it will look like for our family. We have a vision to equip and advance the Body of Christ in Hawaii, and to create Bible-based education in various formats to meet the needs of Believers.
Our desire is to see communities, cities, and nations transformed by the power and love of Jesus Christ. We have partnered with local organizations in Hawaii to transform the islands through His love.
